The Annual Jean Scharre Thompson
Undergraduate Scholarship in Gender and Women’s Studies
Jean Scharre Thompson was a high school teacher and educator with a lifelong interest in and commitment to women’s rights and women’s education. She was an active member of the American Association of University Women.
Requirements. The Jean Scharre Thompson Scholarship is a one-time annual award providing support in the amount of $1,500, applied to a student’s tuition and fees, to a junior or senior undergraduate student majoring in Gender and Women’s Studies. Overall and major GPA, as well as involvement in campus activism and/or social justice work, will be considered in the selection of the recipient. Eligible students must be registered, full-time, and in good standing at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and must continue as students during the upcoming academic semester.
Applicants are asked to 1) complete the application form and submit it with 2) recent transcripts, and a 3) letter of support from a faculty and/or advisor who can speak on the student’s research interests and/or commitment to gender and women’s studies and activism and social justice work. Students must submit application materials to the Gender and Women’s Studies Department by 5:00 PM on April 8, 2016. All submissions and letters of reference should be submitted electronically.
