The Annual Jean Scharre Thompson
Undergraduate Scholarship in Gender and Women’s Studies
Jean Scharre Thompson was a high school teacher and educator with a lifelong interest in and commitment to women’s rights and women’s education. She was an active member of the American Association of University Women.
Requirements. The Jean Scharre Thompson Scholarship is a one-time annual award providing support in the amount of $1,500, applied to a student’s tuition and fees, to a junior or senior undergraduate student majoring in Gender and Women’s Studies. Overall and major GPA, as well as involvement in campus activism and/or social justice work, will be considered in the selection of the recipient. Eligible students must be registered, full-time, and in good standing at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and must continue as students during the upcoming academic semester.
Applicants are asked to 1) complete the application form and submit it with 2) recent transcripts, and a 3) letter of support from a faculty and/or advisor who can speak on the student’s research interests and/or commitment to gender and women’s studies and activism and social justice work. Students must submit application materials to the Gender and Women’s Studies Department by April 7, 2017. All submissions and letters of reference should be submitted electronically.
