New Faculty Position in Women & Gender Studies
ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: Women and Gender Studies in the School of Social Transformation at Arizona StateUniversity TempeCampus invites applications for a full-time, tenure track assistant/associate professor. The position begins August 2010.
We offer a robust undergraduate program, a graduate certificate and a PhD in Gender Studies. In addition to ten core faculty, 40 faculty from across the university are affiliated with our Graduate Program. We seek candidates with astrong research and teaching profile in transnational feminism and gender studies, demonstrated ability to make connections between local andglobal feminisms, and commitment to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses from interdisciplinary women and gender studies perspectives.The successful candidate's research will advance methods inwomen and gender studies and use theoretical approaches that recognize the critical dimensions of race, ethnicity, nationality, class, sexuality, and cross-cultural diversity.
Women and Gender Studies is a part of the new School of Social Transformation which includes African and African American Studies, Asian Pacific American Studies, and Justice and Social Inquiry. The focus of the new school is on the creation of transformational knowledge. Within the school are 42 faculty representing a wide range of disciplines in the social sciences and humanities and various interdisciplinary fields.
Minimum requirements include a PhD in women's studies or related field in the social sciences or humanities, completed by August 1, 2010. Preference will be given to candidates with graduate training in women’s or gender studies.

The successful candidate will join the faculty of the new school and will have a joint appointment in two of the school’s faculties: African and African American Studies, Asian Pacific American Studies, Justice and Social Inquiry, and Women and Gender Studies. The school seeks a candidate whose research focuses primarily on processes of social change or social transformation, engages intersectional, transdisciplinary research, and explores global and local interconnections.The candidate will contribute to the development of diverse new degrees and certificates.
Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. by August 2010 in a relevant field such as: African and African American studies, Asian American/Pacific Islander studies, cultural anthropology, economics, ethnic studies, geography, history, justice studies, literature, political science, sociology, women’s studies; ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary and collaborative setting; and a demonstrated record of scholarly achievement, including research and teaching, in the study of social change and transformation. Tenure-Track Position of Assistant Professor
The Department of Women's & Gender Studies at Syracuse University invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Women's & Gender Studies, appointment to begin August 2010, Ph.D. in hand by time of appointment. This position is contingent upon budgetary approval. We seek a candidate who demonstrates a strong record of interdisciplinary research and teaching in the field of Women's & Gender Studies, consistent with a tenure-track appointment at a research university. We are interested in a scholar with a strong background in transnational and intersectional feminist theories and methodologies, and are particularly interested in candidates who specialize in Latina, Chicana, Latin American, and/or Caribbean feminist scholarship. Interdisciplinary doctoral training required; Women's Studies or Interdisciplinary Ph.D. preferred.
The candidate's work should complement the mission, goals, and strengths of the WGS Department at SU. The candidate will be expected to contribute to our core undergraduate curriculum and to expand our offerings at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Director of Women’s Studies at Appalachian State University
The Appalachian State University’s Women’s Studies Program seeks applicationsfor the position of Director, which is a full-time, nine-month faculty appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, beginning August 2010.
The position requires a visionary administrator and scholar with an active research agenda in women’s and gender studies and experience directing an interdisciplinary degree program. A doctoral degree is required, but the area of specialization is open. The Director’s teaching load is one course per semester. The Director serves full-time in the Women’s Studies Program and is eligible for tenure in the appropriate academic department on campus.
The Women’s Studies Program at Appalachian State has two full-time faculty members assigned to the program, including the Director. The Director of Women’s Studies serves a renewable five-year term, and, after completing service as Director, remains with the Women’s Studies Program as a full-time faculty member. The Women’s Studies Program also includes 75 affiliated faculty members from 18 campus departments who serve the program by teaching women’s and gender studies courses in their disciplines.
Founded in 1976, the Women’s Studies Program at Appalachian State is the oldest in the University of North Carolina system. Our interdisciplinary, university-wide program offers a B.A., a minor, and a Graduate Certificate and is housed in the newly created University College, along with interdisciplinary degree programs in Appalachian Studies, Global Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Sustainable Development. Primary Responsibilities: The Coordinator is responsible for the design and implementation of a comprehensive sexuality peer education program for 15-18 year old participants from the greater Champaign-Urbana community. As an employee who is representing management to staff and the public, it is important that the Coordinator demonstrate an ability to relate well to people and to work effectively as a team member.
Education: Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in community health education, social work, a related field or equivalent experience
Experience: Successful history of working with young adults. Professional background working with schools and organizations that are concerned with the needs and problems of young adults. Training and experience with sexuality peer educators is essential. Demonstrated excellence with both groups and individuals in educational encounters. Willingness and enthusiasm to promote comprehensive sexuality education.

What is GenderPAC's Mission?
GenderPAC is a human rights organization which works on ending gender based stereotyping and discriminiation. One of GenderPAC's core beliefs is that everyone should be able to succeed whether or not they meed the expectations of masculinity or feminity.
What are some of the major projects GenderPAC has undertaken?
GenderPAC is involved in numerous forms of actiona and advocacy. Among our largest projects is the annual GENIUS (Gender Equality National Index for Universities and Schools) as well as our Community Partners Program and our Safe Environment for Children Campaign.
What do interns at GenderPAC do?
Anything and everything! Interns at GenderPAC are given an amazing assortment of tasks from creating newsletters and movies to conducting studies. At times there are less creative jobs like stuffing envelopes, but these are far and few between. An intern even created this handout!
If I Intern at GenderPAC, what can I expect to learn?
Interns at GenderPAC develop many skills. Many intern assignments require a high degree of research and writing, so you will definitely improve those skills. GenderPAC also relies on team work, so you will enhance your ability to work in groups.
Sounds Great! Can I get academic credit for my internship?
Absolutely, although it's up to your school to approve. Many interns at GenderPAC choose to receive credit for their internship while others simply enjoy the valuable work experience.
